Five-Week Tarot Foundations Class
Learn how to move beyond memorizing tarot card meanings and begin developing the confidence, intuition, discipline, and spiritual foundation needed to actually read the cards.
This five-week course is designed for students who want to understand tarot on a deeper level while learning how to work with their deck, connect with spirit, investigate situations, build spreads, and conduct a reading from beginning to end.
Class Begins: September 7 at 7:30 PM
Format: In Person or via Zoom
Length: Five Weeks
Meets: One Day Per Week
Homework Assigned After Every Session
Students will meet with Dora once a week for five consecutive weeks. Each session will include teaching, guided practice, discussion, and exercises to help you develop your own relationship with the cards.
This is not a daily five-week program. You will attend one class session each week and complete homework between sessions.
What We Will Cover
Week 1: Tarot History + Major Arcana
We will begin with the foundations of tarot.
Students will learn about the history of tarot, how the deck developed, the structure of a tarot deck, and the purpose of the Major and Minor Arcana.
We will begin studying the 22 Major Arcana cards and the larger life themes, lessons, archetypes, and spiritual messages they can represent.
We will also discuss how to investigate your deck and begin developing a personal relationship with the cards you will be using throughout the course.
Week 2: Minor Arcana — Wands + Swords
We will begin breaking down the Minor Arcana through the suits of Wands and Swords.
Students will learn how the elements, numbers, imagery, symbolism, and progression of each suit can help tell a story within a reading.
We will also begin discussing spiritual hygiene for tarot readers, including preparing yourself before a reading, cleansing your space and cards, protecting your energy, and properly opening and closing a reading.
Week 3: Minor Arcana — Cups + Pentacles
We will continue through the Minor Arcana with Cups and Pentacles while strengthening your ability to recognize patterns between cards.
Rather than simply memorizing definitions, students will begin learning how to look at several cards together and understand the larger message being communicated.
We will also discuss how to sync with your spirit before reading and how to begin recognizing the difference between your own thoughts, the traditional meaning of a card, and intuitive information that may come through during a reading.
Week 4: Tarot Investigation + Spreads
This week will focus heavily on putting the cards to work.
Students will learn how to ask clearer questions, investigate situations through tarot, use follow-up questions and clarifying cards, and recognize when the cards have already provided enough information.
We will also discuss how tarot may be used to investigate spiritual activity or the presence of a spirit while learning to approach spiritual information carefully and responsibly.
Students will practice:
• Three-card spreads
• Ten-card spreads
• Clarifying cards
• Follow-up questions
• Card combinations
• Investigative pulls
• Reading patterns throughout a spread
Week 5: Live Reading Practice
The final week is our reading lab.
Students will practice reading for one another and begin putting everything learned throughout the five weeks together.
We will practice how to:
• Prepare your reading space
• Open the session
• Sync with spirit
• Ask and clarify the question
• Choose or build a spread
• Interpret multiple cards together
• Investigate deeper when necessary
• Communicate the message clearly
• Close the reading properly
The goal is for students to leave the course feeling more comfortable conducting a tarot reading from beginning to end rather than relying only on memorized card meanings.
Spiritual Practice Throughout the Course
Spiritual hygiene will not be treated as a one-time lesson.
We will practice it throughout the entire five-week course.
Students will learn the importance of preparing themselves spiritually before reading, maintaining boundaries while reading for others, creating a clean reading space, connecting with their spiritual support, and properly closing themselves down once a session is complete.
We will also work with a white candle during our class sessions as part of creating our spiritual space and communicating with spirit.
Required Supplies
Please have the following ready for the first class and bring them to every session:
• One brand-new journal dedicated specifically to your tarot studies
• One Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot Deck featuring the original Pamela Colman Smith illustrations
• Pen or pencil
• One cloth for your tarot deck to sit on while reading
• At least one white candle for each class session
Your white candle may be a large candle, votive candle, or tea light.
Students attending through Zoom should have their full setup prepared before each session begins.
Please continue using the same tarot deck and journal throughout the entire course so you can track your development and become familiar with the symbolism and communication style of your deck.
Homework
Homework will be assigned after every weekly session.
Assignments may include card study, journaling, daily or weekly pulls, symbolism exercises, spread practice, interpretation exercises, and developing your relationship with your deck.
The work completed between sessions is an important part of this course.
You are not expected to become a reader simply by sitting in class once a week. Your practice, journaling, observation, and homework throughout the five weeks will help strengthen what you are learning during class.
